Measuring

Materials: Measuring tape or ruler and grid paper
Book: Inch by Inch
Activity: Measure household items and then draw them into the grid paper using a unit of measurement (i.e. an inch) as equivalent to each grid square
Enrichment: Identify specific shapes to find (rectangle = computer screen for example), have your kid find items in each shape and measure them in various ways (side, across, other side, depth). Find containers and fill them with materials (water, rice, rocks), then measure the height of the contents of each container. Are the amounts/volumes the same or different? Do some materials appear to take up the whole space (water), while some do not (rocks)? Why is that?
Activity: Measure child’s height and record it in a special place
